The Horsts in Central Florida
The Horsts moved to Eustis, from Ohio, in the mid 40's (approx 44 I
believe). They opened a roofing and sheet metal shop on Bay Street,
just south of Lakeview. They soon got into air conditioning and
heating also. A good part of the property was lost when Bay Street was
four laned and the business was moved, in the late 70's to Kurt Street.
The original brothers to move and establish the business were Roy and
his wife Mabel, Raymond and his wife Zora, Bob and his wife Lena and
Don, his wife Dorothy and their daughter Virginia Lee. Roy and Raymond
had children but they were grown, when they moved to Eustis, and
remained in Ohio.
In 1955 Roscoe, his wife Margaret and son Charles moved to Eustis, also
from Ohio, and bought out Roy's share of the business. Roy managed a
fish camp on Haines Creek for a few years before moving back to Ohio.
Roscoe and Don bought out Bob who retired to the Carolinas. Then Jim
(Roscoe's oldest son) bought out Don. When Roscoe passed away in 1991
(at the age of 90) Jim inherited the business. Jim passed away in July
of 92.
Jim had a daughter and a son Denny. Both remained in the area.
Virginia Lee moved to Seattle Wash. and is now retired. She and her
husband summer in Seattle and travel in the South in the winter
visiting her grown children.
Charles has a son who went into law enforcement. Another son works for
a School Board doing roofing and a daughter works for a doctor.
All of the original brothers (Roy, Raymond, Bob, Don and Roscoe) and
their wives have passed away as well as Jim (Roscoe's oldest).
