Stearns
I'm researching a former Union soldier named Alvin Stearns, who served
in the 8th NY Cavalry, and was one of General Sheridan's top scouts.
After the war, he married a Virginia girl and they bounced around the
country while he worked for the railroads. They had 10 children, the
youngest of which, Frank, b. April, 1884, was born in Eustis, where
they came to live when the Louisiana
Pacific Railroad opened up. Alvin was killed Dec. 14, 1886 while
coupling
railroad cars in Plaquemine, Louisiana. I know the names and birthdates
of all the children, but I haven't been able to determine what happened

his very interesting military experiences.
